Dexter Studios Secures 8.6 Billion Won ‘Silla Capital Digital Recreation Project’ from Korea Heritage Service… “Continued Success in Immersive Content Sector”
Dexter Studios(206560, hereinafter “Dexter”) announced that it has secured the “Silla Capital Digital Recreation Project,” an initiative promoted by the Korea Heritage Service.
The “Silla Capital Digital Recreation Project” aims to create national heritage digital content that allows users to experience Silla’s heritage, historical figures, and stories in a virtual space as if traveling through time. By utilizing primary digital resources (3D assets) recreated through archaeological surveys and 3D scans of key Silla-era ruins, the project’s goal is to produce a new form of experiential content. This will allow the public to directly experience the grandeur of major architectural structures that are difficult to physically restore. The project is being pushed forward with a total budget of 8.6 billion won.
Through this project, a total of around ten different types of content will be produced, including: “Discovery Content” for exploring spaces and information, “Active Discovery Content” for exploring history while completing missions, and “Immersive Discovery Content” designed to maximize a sense of realism within immersive exhibition spaces.
In particular, the project will feature “Multi-User Spatial Experiential Content” through a VR format that allows more than 20 visitors to connect simultaneously in a large space. This will enable them to physically walk through and experience both the interiors and exteriors of major historical spaces that either no longer exist or are currently inaccessible. The objective is to provide visitors with a hyper-spatiotemporal experience, allowing them to realistically appreciate the historical scenery of the Silla period from every direction.
Dexter is participating in the project as part of a consortium with the lead organization, the Technology Research Institute for Culture (TRIC), and will be in charge of directing and producing the 3D digital content. Dexter plans to leverage its expertise in immersive content production, including modeling techniques to optimize raw 3D assets for VR, and advanced Look-Dev (Look Development) know-how for large-scale immersive content.
Dexter has previously produced numerous immersive content pieces in the cultural heritage sector, including the “Bomun Multimedia Show” commemorating the APEC Summit, Korea Creative Content Agency’s (KOCCA) “Gwanghwa Sidae,” and the National Museum of Korea’s “Pyeongsaengdo” (Paintings of a Lifetime). Furthermore, through its subsidiary, Flashback Ground, Dexter is currently operating “Flashback : Gyerim” at the Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju—a history-telling media art exhibition that reinterprets the legends of the thousand-year Silla Kingdom into an immersive experience.
Lee Hyun-min, Head of Dexter’s Immersive Content Division, stated, “Through this project, outstanding expert teams in each field will collaborate to implement the Silla Capital with an unparalleled level of completion, built upon high-quality 3D assets undergoing thorough historical verification.” He added, “We will showcase distinctive content that allows visitors to directly experience the Silla of their imagination through various formats.”
