Dexter Studios has vividly captured the historic atmosphere of 1932 Gyeongseong by faithfully recreating the era’s landscapes and spaces.
Dexter Studios(KOSDAQ: 206560), a comprehensive content company, announced its participation as the VFX(Visual Effects) provider for tvN’s 20th Anniversary Special Drama, ‘100 Days of Deception’.
‘100 Days of Deception’ is an espionage romance drama depicting the 100-day journey of Gyeongseong’s top pickpocket turned undercover agent and an elite interpreter for the Japanese Government-General of Korea who encounter each other at the heart of enemy territory. The series features a stellar cast including Kim Yoo-jung, Park Jin-young, Kim Hyun-joo, Lee Moo-saeng, and Jin Seon-kyu. It is directed by Yoo In-shik, acclaimed for the ‘Dr. Romantic’ series and ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’, and written by Ryu Bo-ri, creator of ‘Do You Like Brahms?’. According to Nielsen Korea, the drama garnered explosive ratings during its premiere week, leading its time slot with a nationwide household average of 7.6% and peaking at 8.5%.
Dexter Studios leveraged its deep expertise and tailored technological approach—adapting VFX techniques according to genre and historical setting—to realize the era’s world. Dexter has previously enhanced the realism and texture of various eras in productions such as ‘Escape from Mogadishu’, ‘1987: When the Day Comes’, ‘The WONDERfools’, and the ‘Gyeongseong Creature’ series. Given that few 1930s landmarks like Gyeongseong Station remain intact today, the team focused on seamlessly expanding spaces and environments based on extensive historical research.
Lee Ju-won and Park Se-hee, supervisors at Dexter’s VFX Division, stated, “In ‘100 Days of Deception’, to capture the natural sense of daily life and the spirit of the times in 1932 Gyeongseong on screen, we focused on creating VFX that would convey the light, atmosphere, and visual perspective of that era, rather than making the effects stand out as separate elements.” “We aimed to create a visual experience where the visual effects—centered on the actors’ performances and the narrative—naturally bridge the era and the setting, allowing viewers to immerse themselves as if they were actually experiencing the world of the film,” they added.
Meanwhile, Dexter Studios continues to expand its competitive edge across theaters, OTT platforms, films, dramas, and animations by collaborating with domestic and global production houses across all areas of post-production, including VFX, DI (Digital Intermediate), sound design and mixing, and virtual production.
