“Colony” produced with the participation of Dexter Technology, has been officially invited to the 79th Cannes Film Festival… making its mark on the global stage
Dexter Studios(206560, hereinafter “Dexter”) has once again solidified its presence as a technology partner in the global content market after a film in which it provided technical support was officially invited to the Cannes Film Festival.
Dexter announced that it provided technical support for the VFX (visual effects) and DI (digital color grading) of the film “Colony” an official selection at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
Director Yeon Sang-ho’s “Colony” has been invited to the Midnight Screenings, a non-competitive section. The Midnight Screenings, where “Colony” was invited, is a venue that carefully selects and screens a small number of films that combine artistic merit with popular appeal, making this achievement particularly significant as it marks the first such invitation in two years since “I, The Executioner” in 2024.
‘Colony’ is a film in which isolated survivors inside a building sealed off due to an unidentified infection battle infected individuals evolving in unpredictable ways. Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, who set a new standard for the Korean zombie genre with “Train to Busan,” this new film features a star-studded cast including Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyeon-bin, Kim Shin-rok, and Go Soo. It has garnered significant attention both domestically and internationally, having secured pre-sales in 124 countries.
Dexter was responsible for the VFX and DI of ‘Colony’ contributing to maximizing the genre’s immersive experience. By organically combining VFX and DI to minimize inconsistencies between scenes and create a unified cinematic experience, the film is raising expectations for its overall quality.
Dexter has already been recognized for its technical expertise at numerous global film festivals. The film “Parasite,” in which Dexter provided technical support for VFX, DI, and sound, won four Oscars at the Academy Awards. Dexter has also contributed to numerous films that have garnered attention in the global market, including “Decision to Leave,” “Broker,” and “Train to Busan,” which were invited to both the competitive and non-competitive sections of the Cannes Film Festival. In addition, various films featuring Dexter’s work—including “No Other Choice” which was invited to the Venice International Film Festival and won the International Audience Award at the Toronto International Film Festival—continue to achieve success as they advance to leading film festivals worldwide.
Alongside this, Dexter is expanding its presence in the post-production field by participating not only in domestic films such as the “Along With the Gods” series, ”Space Sweepers”, ”Escape from Mogadishu”, ”The Moon”, ”Alienoid” series, ”12.12: THE DAY”, and ”The King’s Warden”, but also in global projects like the overseas films ”The Wandering Earth”, ”The Monkey King the Legend Begins”, and ”Knights of the Zodiac”. Recently, the company has been expanding its influence beyond theatrical films to global OTT content, building a technology portfolio that transcends platform boundaries by participating in hit series such as Netflix’s “Squid Game,” “Kingdom,” “Gyeongseong Creature,” and “Parasite: The Gray,” as well as Disney+’s “Moving,” “The Light Shop,” and “Made in Korea.”
Meanwhile, the 79th Cannes Film Festival will be held in Cannes, France, starting May 12, and is expected to draw the attention of film industry professionals from around the world.
