Dexter Studios is now an official sponsor of the Korea National University of Arts Graduation Film Festival, showing its commitment to playing a leading role in supporting next-generation filmmakers who will, one day, produce new and innovative K-content.
Visual effects (VFX) and content company Dexter Studios announced on February 22 that it had made a sizable donation to the Korea National University of Arts Development Foundation to become a gold sponsor. The funds were offered to help support the 25th Korea National University of Arts (KARTS) Film Academy’s Graduation Film Festival.
Established in 1991 with the goal of nurturing professional artists, KARTS features independent educational institutions across a total of six fields: Music Academy, Theater Academy, Film Academy, Dance Academy, Art Academy, and Traditional Arts Academy. It aims to train and teach creative professional artists, and all of its programs focus on improving each student’s ability to produce in their particular field of expertise. The Department of Film and Media at the Film Academy is committed to developing professional filmmakers with creative and artistic ideas, professional knowledge of the latest technology, and plenty of experience in an era where video content continues to evolve at break-neck speed.
Kim Dae-jin, President of KARTS, said, “Our Graduation Film Festival is an important event to showcase the talent and passion of our students by screening the works they have produced over the past year.” He explained, “This promotes the growth of our school by showcasing the achievements and works produced by our Film Academy to industry officials and the general public, and it also shares what we teach at KART.” Kim added, “I would like to ask for your interest and support for our alumni as they look to start their journey into the industry as future film directors, and I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the many people inside and outside KARTS who helped in the build-up for the Graduation Film Festival.”
Dexter Studios’ Co-CEOs Kim Wook and Kang Jong-ik said, “Dexter Studios was created in 2012 by a group of first-generation VFX artists in Korea for the production of the movie ‘Mr. Go.’ From there, it grew into Asia’s best post-production company, and is now a leader in the VFX industry.” They explained, “Today, we are a comprehensive content company that works with various subsidiaries such as content producer Dexter Pictures, sound producer LiveTone, and advertising agency Dexter Krema.”
Kim and Kang added, “Since we started out with movies, we decided to join as a sponsor for this year’s Graduation Film Festival as part of our social contribution activities aimed specifically at helping the Korean film industry grow. We look forward to meeting new directors from KARTS and next-generation talent who might just come up with the next big thing in terms of K-content, which has emerged as the center of global culture. We’re hoping to work with KARTS alumni going forward on new and interesting projects.”
Meanwhile the 25th KARTS Graduation Film Festival will get under way at CGV Myeongdong Station Cine Library for four days from February 23 to 26. A total of 76 works from 31 alumni and 45 current students will be screened throughout the Festival.
