Part 1 of TVING’s original series “Death’s Game” premiered on December 15. Most notable from the series, perhaps, is Dexter Studios’ technology, which brilliantly designed visuals that go back and forth between the underworld and the real world that help captivate the audience.
Dexter Studios (206560), a company specializing in VFX and content production, announced on December 18 that it worked on the VFX and DI (digital intermediate) for TVING’s new original series “Death’s Game.” Last May, the company said that it had won an order for the post-production of the series, which was co-produced by SLL, Studio N, and Saram Entertainment.
“Death’s Game” is based on the Naver webtoon of the same title (written/illustrated by Lee Won-shik/Ggulchan) from 2019. It features the story of Yi-jae, the protagonist, who lives and dies 12 times before being cast off to hell. The original webtoon series was translated into ten languages and earned more than 280 million views worldwide, which is why a number of people were interested in turning it into a live-action series.
Ha Byung-hoon, who previously directed “Confession Couple” and “18 Again,” wrote the script himself, adding his own interesting twists to the plot. Meanwhile, actors Seo In-guk and Park So-dam gave passionate performances playing the main characters Yi-jae and Death, respectively. Dexter Studios’ Jaegal Seung and Supervisor Kim Hyun-jin both worked on the VFX design for “Death’s Game,” which brought the series onto a whole new level.
Supervisor Jaegal Seung said, “We used a wide range of visual effects to show the environment in which Yi-jae’s reincarnation process changes dramatically every time. The point we focused on was the creative elements rooted in fantasy, which we could use to add to the unique theme of reincarnation.”
He added, “I also worked on making the space where the transcendent being ‘Death’ resides feel like a world from an entirely different dimension. To that end, I tried to maintain that fantasy feel even when the storyline would transition to a different one by vividly depicting scenes such as explosions and airplane accidents happening against a backdrop from the real world.”
Part 2 of TVING’s original series “Death’s Game,” which has a high approval rate from both webtoon and drama fans with its brilliant casting, will be released on January 5 across 240 countries around the world via Amazon Prime Video.
