Dexter Studios has once again been recognized as having ‘Asia’s top technical prowess’ by winning the Visual Effects Award (Film) at the 7th Daejeon Special Visual Effects Film Festival.
Content specialist Dexter Studios (206560, hereafter Dexter) announced that it won the Visual Effects Award (Film) at the ‘7th Daejeon Special Visual Effects Film Festival OverTheTop Awards’ held on the 28th for the film ‘Escape: Project Silence’.
The ‘Daejeon Special Visual Effects Film Festival’ is Korea’s only awards ceremony specializing in special visual effects, selecting and honoring directors, visual effects production companies, actors, and others who demonstrate outstanding creativity and technical excellence in the field of special effects for visual content such as films and dramas.
A total of 208 works were nominated for this 7th ceremony. Dexter was honored with the award, recognized for its technical execution as the VFX (visual effects) production company for the film ‘Escape: Project Silence’ among a strong field of nominees.
Dexter vividly realized the film’s unique chain of disasters—including the collapse of the Airport Bridge, a 100-car pileup, a helicopter crash, a tanker explosion, and attacks by military experimental dogs—with exceptional scale and realistic detail that felt like actual on-site scenes. Notably, the 11 experimental dogs ‘Eco’—the film’s key characters—were entirely created using pure VFX, each differing in breed, size, movement, and characteristics. Their realistic animation, which even depicted complex emotions, heightened the film’s immersion and earned high praise.
Kang Jong-ik, Co-CEO of Dexter Studios, which handled the VFX for ‘Escape: Project Silence,’ stated, “We’re thrilled that Dexter’s commitment to creating technically outstanding yet artistically beautiful VFX has been recognized,” adding, “This award holds special meaning as it was a collaborative effort where Dexter handled VFX and DI, and our subsidiary Live Tone managed sound, all working together to refine the film’s quality right up to the end.”
Kang Jong-ik, who was also invited to the DFX Screening ‘OTT Awards [OverTheTop] Spotlight’ GV for the winning works, met with audiences of ‘Escape: Project Silence’. He shared vivid behind-the-scenes stories, including the process of directing the extreme disaster situations and the creation of the experimental dog ‘Echo’, produced entirely with 100% VFX.
Dexter previously won the Visual Effects Award in the film category at last year’s ‘6th Daejeon Special Visual Effects Film Festival’ for the film ‘Alienoid: Return to the Future’. By securing trophies for two consecutive years, it has once again proven its technical leadership as a leading domestic VFX company. Dexter has consistently demonstrated its technical excellence, winning technical, visual effects, and art awards at over 20 domestic and international ceremonies, including the Blue Dragon Film Awards, Grand Bell Awards, Baeksang Arts Awards, Taiwan’s Golden Horse Film Festival, Hong Kong’s Hong Kong Film Awards, and China’s Changchun Film Festival.
Meanwhile, Dexter recently expanded its VFX technology into offline spaces by opening ‘Flashback : Gyerim,’ an immersive media art exhibition hall offering cinematic experiences. ‘Flashback : Gyerim’ is a project that brings together the full capabilities of the Dexter Group, including VFX, sound design, immersive content planning, and spatial design, and is currently operating to critical acclaim. Dexter plans to strengthen its competitiveness across the entire visual content market by expanding its production scope to include film, OTT, animation, immersive content, and immersive media art.
