Dexter Studios won the Export Tower award for exceeding USD 3 million in overseas sales over the past year. Since its establishment in 2012, the company has continued to secure clients overseas in countries like China, Japan, Russia, and the United States in an effort to grow its presence in the global market.
Dexter Studios (206560), a company specializing in VFX and content production, announced on December 6 that it won the Export Tower award in the USD 3 million overseas export category at the “60th Trade Day” awards ceremony. The Export Tower is an official award from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea International Trade Association given to companies that have contributed to cultivating overseas markets and increasing exports.
A company official said, “We’ve already been in business for a decade now, and we’ve met certain conditions to qualify for the award given how much sales we’ve generated overseas. We submitted the paperwork to prove our exports over the past year (July 2022 to June 2023) in order to help promote our achievements overseas and earn trust from across the market. That resulted in our first Export Tower award ever.”
The official added, “During this period, we brought in more than USD 3.6 million in sales. A large part of that came from our VFX work on a Hollywood film jointly produced between studios in the US, Japan, and Hungary titled ‘Knights of the Zodiac.’ Of course, we added to our tally with contracts in different sectors, including some global products, which could be coming soon now, some digital intermediate work, our own VR content, and proceedings from our movie copyrights.”
Dexter Studios is still on the lookout for new markets outside of Korea.
In September of this year, the company signed a contract to provide consulting services on Virtual Production (VP) with the Kantana Group, a massive media company in Thailand, adding to its list of overseas clients. Meanwhile, the D1 studio, opened by Dexter Studios in 2021, was the first in Korea to work with the global corporation Lux Machina. Known for its outstanding technology and cutting-edge facilities, D1 has become a popular studio for large-budget films, drama series, and commercials. Leveraging its know-how earned from a myriad of projects to date, Dexter Studios is currently helping to establish and build a system for the Kantana Virtual Studio located in Bangkok, Thailand.
Also, earlier this month, Dexter Studios signed an MOU with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) under Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture for joint investment and production of video content, which is squarely in line with the company’s global expansion strategy. Dexter Studios plans to establish closer ties to local VFX companies through TAICCA and push for additional initiatives, such as training VFX experts and initiating collaborative projects.
A company official said, “We are expanding overseas across a variety of fields, including participation in post-production technologies such as VFX, DI, VP, and SOUND, as well as corporate consulting and joint production investment. Recently, our company has enjoyed some rapid growth to the point where we’re working shoulder-to-shoulder with the biggest global studios in the world.” He continued, “As one of Dexter Group’s subsidiaries, we’re looking to achieve different things going forward and take a leap forward to become the most influential studio in the global market beyond Asia.”
