Visual effects (VFX) and content company Dexter Studios Co., Ltd. (CEO: Kim Wook, Kang Jong-ik; hereinafter “Dexter Studios”) has agreed to work with Megabox Plus M Co., Ltd. (CEO: Jeongin Hong; hereinafter “Megabox”) to co-produce video content for the cartoon series “Taoist Meoteol.”
On February 9, Dexter Studios announced, “Together with Megabox, we plan on turning Lee Doo-Ho’s ‘Taoist Meoteol” cartoon series into a TV serial and movie. The rebooted Taoist Meoteol will be a Korean-style action hero series/movie, and tell the story of Meoteol and Master Nudeok based on storylines from the original cartoon’s universe.”
Taoist Meoteol is the first joint project between Dexter Studios and Megabox. In January, Dexter Studios signed an agreement with Megabox for “joint video planning/production and project development,” and committed to planning and developing new projects and producing movies and TV serials with Megabox.
In the Taoist Meoteol project, Dexter Studios will be tasked with the overall post-production of the content, including the co-production of the movie and the VFX works, DI (color correction), and sound correction for both the movie and TV series. Leveraging its advanced technology and know-how, which have been proven through prominent works such as “Parasite,” “Space Sweepers,” “Squid Game,” “Hellbound,” and “The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure” over the past decade, Dexter Studios is expected to improve the overall quality of the Taoist Meoteol project.
Dexter Studios will also take the lead in producing the TV series. To date, the company has produced a number of films, including “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds,” “Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days,” “Ashfall,” and “Escape from Mogadishu,” and enjoyed immense success. In terms of TV series, however, Taoist Meoteol will be Dexter Studios’ first. Seeing this as an opportunity, Dexter Studios plans to expand its content production platform from movies to TV series and OTT content.
Dexter Studios’ CEOs Kim Wook and Kang Jong-ik said, “As our first project with Megabox, we chose ‘Taoist Meoteol,’ which has been a popular series across a variety of age groups for a very long time. By adding a solid plot, expanding the worldview, and using our own technology, we plan to create a hero that feels more entertaining and emotionally rewarding than the original.” They added, “AT Dexter Studios, we will continue to strengthen our capacity to identify and plan content so that we can present new works in a variety of formats, including movies, TV series, and OTT content.”
