Dexter Studios won yet another Blue Dragon Film Awards trophy, proving its dominance as a post-production powerhouse.
Dexter Studios (206560), a company specializing in VFX and content production, announced on November 27 that supervisor Jin Jonghyun, who worked on the VFX elements featured in “The Moon,” won the Technology Award at the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards (November 24). For the film, Dexter Studios worked on everything from its VFX, VP, DI&DIT, and sound.
“The Moon” is about former Space Center director Jae-guk (actor Sul Kyung-gu) and NASA’s director of manned lunar orbiters Moon Young (actor Kim Hee-ae) trying to save astronaut Seon-woo (actor Do Kyung-soo), who was stranded on the moon after an unexpected accident. Given the nature of its genre, Dexter Studios used scientific data to reduce errors in the environments depicted in “The Moon,” then added its own creativity to create some one-of-a-kind visual elements.
Dexter Studios VFX Supervisor Jin Jonghyun said, “We focused on giving the audience a chance to experience outer space and events that are difficult for most of us to experience in real life as vividly as possible.” and added, “We tried to study up on spatial science and fine-tuned our visual designs to deliver what we call a ‘K-SciFi’ experience.”
Jin continued, “Dexter Studios and its subsidiary Livetone worked with each other on the overall post-production of the film, including the visual effects, virtual production, digital intermediate, and sound. The Korean Sci-Fi market faces barriers that are higher than most other genres, so being part of such a massive project was a privilege for me, and I’d like to share the honor of winning this award with my colleagues.”
Previously, Jin won the Technical Award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards for “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” in 2018 and “Ashfall” in 2020. With “The Moon,” Jin adds a third Blue Dragon to his trophy cabinet, cementing his reputation as one of the top VFX artists in Korea. Meanwhile, Dexter Studios won the Technical Award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards for “Mr. Go” in 2013 and “The Pirates” in 2014.
