Dexter Studios recognized for its technical prowess on the global content stage, winning the “Best Visual Effects Award” at the 2024 ACA & G.OTT Awards
Dexter Studios has once again demonstrated its prowess as a visual effects (VFX) powerhouse by winning another award following the success it enjoyed at the Daejeon Special FX Festival in September.
Content specialist company, Dexter Studios [206560], announced on October 8 that it received the Best Visual Effects Award at the Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards (ACA & G.OTT Awards) held on October 6.
This event, now in its 6th year, is a global content awards ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and Busan Metropolitan City Government, and organized by the Busan International Film Festival and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency. The ACA, which previously awarded TV, OTT, and online content across Korea and Asia, expanded its content category globally last year in collaboration with the International Streaming Festival. This year, the awards were divided into eleven competitive categories and four invitational categories.
Dexter Studios was nominated for the “Best Visual Effects Award” in the visual effects category, which recognizes content that showcased the most outstanding production technology that year. Dexter Studios has proven its strength as a leading K-VFX company, with nominations for the TVING original series “Death’s Game,” the Netflix series “Parasyte: The Grey,” and another Netflix series “YuYu Hakusho,” in which it participated as the main studio in Korea.
Among the three nominations, “Parasyte: The Grey” which garnered attention for Dexter Studios’ unique creature design, ultimately won the award. VFX Supervisor Hong Jung-ho shared his thoughts, saying, “This project involved a lot of thinking and it was challenging in that it required plenty of imagination and new visuals. I was proud to see it rank high up viewership boards globally and receive praise for its visual effects shortly after its release.” Hong added, “I want to share this honor with our artists at Dexter Studios who worked with me through every step of the project, from creating the art concepts all the way to the completing stages.”
Meanwhile, Dexter Studios was also invited to speak at the International Streaming Festival-International Streaming Summit, aimed at promoting the development of the OTT/streaming industry. Specifically, CSO Kim Hye-jin introduced the company’s OTT platform collaboration cases. The event featured representatives from companies such as TVING, VIU, Rakuten Viki, Tubi, and Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, who shared news on the current state of their business, strategies, and innovative projects.
