Dexter Studios played a key technical role in the highly anticipated final season of the global sensation, “Squid Game.”
The company (206560) announced that it was once again responsible for the digital color grading (DI) of Netflix’s Squid Game Season 3, following its continued involvement since the series began. Its subsidiary, Livetone, has also been part of the series since the very beginning, handling all sound production and helping to create the distinctive and immersive atmosphere that has become the show’s signature.
Dexter and Livetone continue to collaborate across a diverse slate of Netflix projects, including the series “When Life Gives You Tangerines,” the film “Revelations,” the series “Tangeum,” and the animated titles “Devil May Cry” and “Lost in Starlight,” showcasing their expertise across series, film, and animation.
In Squid Game Season 3, the story follows Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) as he returns to the deadly games with his own motives, only to lose his closest friend. Audiences will also see the enigmatic Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who keeps his identity hidden within the game, and discover the ultimate fate of the contestants who survive the ruthless final round. Released just six months after Season 2, the final chapter of the Squid Game series was unveiled at the end of last year. Upon its release on June 27, it immediately captured explosive attention from audiences both in Korea and around the world, bringing the saga to a dramatic close.
Park Jin-yeong, Executive Director and Colorist at Dexter’s DI Division, who oversaw digital color grading, said, “Squid Game was a project that made us think deeply about the role of color in storytelling. The key challenge was visually capturing the evolving journeys of the characters, while still preserving the series’ iconic color palettes. For Season 3, we aimed for a high level of cinematic quality, using sharp contrast and restrained brightness to underscore the weight and gravity of the final season’s story.”
Director Kang Hye-yeong of Livetone, who has served as sound supervisor from Season 1 through Season 3, stated, “Season 3 was the series where we focused most deeply on the psychology of Seong Gi-hun during sound mixing. Even amid intense game situations, we aimed to let viewers fully experience his perspective, focus, and emotional journey through the sound design.” She added, “It was an honor to be responsible for the sound of Squid Game, Netflix’s most popular series ever. I take great pride in having conveyed Korean sensibilities and nostalgic traditional games to audiences worldwide over the course of three seasons through our sound work.”
Meanwhile, Dexter Studios has been showcasing its differentiated capabilities across the entire post-production process, including visual effects (VFX), digital intermediate (DI), digital imaging technician (DIT), and sound, by collaborating with various production companies, including Netflix, in a wide range of projects for theaters, streaming platforms, films, dramas, and animated content.
