Dexter Studios has once again demonstrated its post-production capabilities by winning the Visual Effects Award at the Daejeon Special FX Festival.
Content specialist company, Dexter Studios [206560], announced on September 23 that it received the Visual Effects Award in the film category for “Alienoid: Return to the Future” at the “OverTheTop” Awards held on September 21.
The Daejeon Special FX Festival is the only specialized awards ceremony in Korea focused on special effects, hosted and organized by the Daejeon Metropolitan City Government and the Daejeon Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Creative Content Agency, and the Korean Film Council. At this year’s event (the 6th), awards were given to production teams and actors who demonstrated special effects technology and creative visual beauty among approximately 400 nominated films and dramas released between July 1 of last year and June 30 of this year.
Supervisor Jegal Seung and Dexter Studios were selected as the recipients of the Visual Effects Award in the film category for their outstanding visual effects (VFX) in “Alienoid: Return to the Future.”
VFX Supervisor Jegal Seung expressed his gratitude, saying, “It is an honor to receive this award for a project that required significant effort from Part 1 to Part 2. I’d like to share this joy with all of my colleagues who helped create the vast universe of ‘Alienoid.’” He added, “Dexter Studios handled all aspects of VFX, Digital Intermediate (DI), and Digital Imaging Technician (DIT), while our subsidiary Livetone took care of the sound, enhancing the overall quality. Receiving this award together with the company at this year’s event makes our achievement even more meaningful.”
Meanwhile, “Alienoid: Return to the Future” has been nominated for the “Art/Technical Award” at the 33rd Buil Film Awards, which will be held in October, building anticipation for additional awards.
At the 2024 Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards (ACA & G.OTT Awards), a global content festival of the Busan International Film Festival, Dexter Studios’ VFX work has been nominated for the “Best Visual Effects Award” for the TVING original series “
Death’s Game” and the Netflix series “Parasyte: The Grey.” Notably, the Netflix series “YuYu Hakusho,” in which Dexter Studios participated as the main VFX provider in Korea, has also been nominated at the ACA & G.OTT Awards, meaning the company will have its fingerprints on three out of four nominees in the competition category.
