Kim Wook, Co-CEO of comprehensive content company Dexter Studios(206560), received a commendation from the Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do in recognition of his contributions to promoting tourism marketing and revitalizing tourism in the province. The award plaque was presented by Kim Nam-il, President of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture & Tourism Corporation, which oversees the province’s cultural and tourism initiatives.
Dexter Studios previously established the immersive media art permanent exhibition hall ‘Flashback: Gyerim’ within the Bomun Tourist Complex area in Gyeongju City, Gyeongsangbuk-do. This project was recognized for developing new cultural content based on the myths and folktales of the Gyeongju region, promoting media art projects with high social media virality, and creating an opportunity to expand the tourism spectrum to attract visitors across all generations, including the younger demographic.
‘Flashback: Gyerim’ was created as Korea’s first immersive media art exhibition that goes beyond viewing Silla legends, allowing visitors to experience them firsthand. It consists of 13 exhibition contents that reinterpret various myths and folktales of the millennium-old Silla Kingdom in a modern way, such as the myth of the birth of Park Hyeokgeose, the folktale of King Munmu’s guardian dragon, and the ‘Sacred Tree’ (Shindansu), offering a fresh perspective on Silla and Gyeongju culture.
Flashback: Gyerim, noted for its large-scale construction (1,700 pyeong area, 11-meter ceiling height) and top-tier VFX, sound, and spatial design, has established itself as a new indoor tourist attraction in the Gyeongju region, where outdoor sites are prevalent, unaffected by weather or temperature.
Leveraging the immersive nature of media art that enables non-verbal communication, ‘Flashback: Gyerim’ can convey Silla’s traditional culture without language barriers. It is expected to contribute as a cultural platform spreading ‘K-Heritage’ in Gyeongju, a city experiencing an annual increase in foreign tourists.
Kim Wook, Co-CEO of Dexter Studios, stated, “We pursued the ‘Flashback: Gyerim’ project to reconstruct Gyeongju’s unique cultural heritage—as Korea’s leading historical and cultural tourism city—into differentiated, high-quality content.” He added, “We will continue developing content to promote Gyeongju’s appeal and contribute to revitalizing tourism in Gyeongsangbuk-do.”
