Dexter Studios Exchanges AI-Based Content Production Technologies with Japan Post Production Association: “Expanding Global Production Cooperation”

Representatives from the Japan Post Production Association (JPPA) visited Dexter Studios to exchange insights on content production technologies evolving around AI and to explore opportunities for mutual cooperation.

Dexter Studios (206560, hereinafter “Dexter”) announced that it shared its overall AI VFX pipeline strategy—including current AI technology applications, know-how, and real-world implementation cases—with the Chairman and member company representatives of the Japan Post Production Association (JPPA).

Established in 1993 to revitalize the post-production market and promote the content industry, JPPA comprises around 140 companies and institutions in the video content sector, including film, television programs, and commercials. As the official certifying body for Japan’s post-production sector, JPPA hosts the annual “JPPA Awards” to honor outstanding video and sound technology. This visit included Hitoshi Seta, Chairman of JPPA and CEO of Tokyo Sound Production (a TV Asahi Group company), along with representatives from 16 major Japanese post-production and content organizations.

This visit holds significant meaning as it marks the third consecutive year of industry exchange between Dexter and JPPA. Both entities have maintained close discussions on South Korea–Japan industry exchanges and joint projects, focusing on Dexter’s post-production technology, know-how in VFX (Visual Effects), DI (Digital Intermediate), and sound, alongside its global content production track record. This ongoing relationship with the Japanese market previously led to a 5.8 billion KRW VFX technology supply contract with Japanese production company Episcope.

This year’s discussion focused on changes in content production and post-production methods driven by AI, as well as real-world technical applications. Jae-won Song, Head of Dexter’s R&D Center, presented Dexter’s AI research and development status alongside practical application cases. He demonstrated AI technologies integrated into the VFX production pipeline, such as AI-based re-aging (aging/de-aging), face swapping, and inpainting. Notably, the introduction highlighted the newly established AI VFX pipeline and ongoing R&D designed to enhance both process efficiency and output quality. Discussions with JPPA representatives also addressed industry challenges, including AI copyright issues arising from the technology’s expansion.

Tae-young Choi, CEO of sound studio Livetone, shared sound production know-how and major production cases for large-scale films, TV series, and OTT projects with JPPA representatives, including Mickey 17, the first Korean film project to enter Hollywood sound production.

Jae-won Song, Head of Dexter’s R&D Center, stated, “We focused on showcasing Dexter’s ‘hybrid approach,’ which integrates AI into the VFX pipeline while achieving high production efficiency and high-end quality that precisely reflects the creator’s intent. Beyond generating simple images or videos, our active implementation of AI across the entire post-production workflow—including process management, proprietary software development, and 3D modeling or animation generation—received enthusiastic responses from JPPA representatives.”
