Dexter Studios (206560, hereinafter Dexter), a comprehensive content specialist company, has seen its first immersive media art exhibition hall ‘Flashback : Gyerim’ emerge as a new tourist attraction in Gyeongju commemorating the 2026 ‘Year of the Red Horse’.
Presented by Dexter through its subsidiary Flashback Ground Co., Ltd., ‘Flashback : Gyerim’ is a history-telling media art exhibition hall that reinterprets the mythical narrative of the thousand-year-old Silla Kingdom with a modern sensibility. Its large-scale space (maximum size: 5,600 square meters, maximum ceiling height: 36 feet) and distinctive storytelling content have drawn attention, making it a buzzworthy tourist destination for the Year of the Red Horse. Despite the severe cold since the start of the year, its New Year-themed content and weather-proof indoor exhibition environment have garnered enthusiastic responses from visitors.
Particularly, a line of visitors formed in front of the ‘Geoseogan’ exhibit—a content piece depicting a soaring giant horse form based on the founding myth of King Park Hyeokgeose and majestic light heralding a new era—eagerly snapping New Year’s commemorative photos. Visitors facing the large horse sculpture, enhanced by grand sound and red lighting effects, expressed sentiments like, “I’ve absorbed the energy of the red horse,” “a photo spot for babies born in the Year of the Horse.”
‘Samshinsan’ is also gaining buzz on social media as a unique indoor experience where visitors can capture sunrise photos. ‘Samshinsan’ is a reinterpretation of the sacred three mountains where the Silla goddesses Naryeok, Golhwa, and Hyeollye resided, blending immersive media art, traditional music, and immersive sound to showcase the four seasons and day-night cycles.
Flashback : Gyerim’s popularity is also confirmed by tourism statistics. According to the ‘2026 Tourism Trends’ released by the Korea Tourism Organization, the average growth rate for scenic/viewpoint-type destinations from January to August 2025 was 18.6% compared to the same period the previous year, reaching three times the overall tourist destination average growth rate (6.2%). During the same period, the average growth rate for exhibition/experience-type facilities was also 17.3%, 2.8 times higher than the overall tourist destination average (6.2%). This clearly demonstrates the growth of ‘spaces where the view itself becomes the content’ and the shift in tourism trends from ‘seeing tourism’ to ‘staying and experiencing tourism’. As this change aligns with the character of Flashback : Gyerim, which offers a multisensory experience akin to walking through the world of Silla’s legends, it is expected to continue attracting both domestic and international visitors.
Flashback : Gyerim is offering a 26% discount for all visitors purchasing tickets online (Ticketlink, Naver Reservation) or on-site throughout January (January 1st to January 31st) to celebrate the New Year. Additionally, a special event offering a 50% discount on admission fees for on-site purchases is available until February 28 (Saturday) for visitors born in the Year of the Horse, the zodiac sign of 2026. Details can be found on the official Flashback : Gyerim website and social media channels.
A Flashback Ground representative stated, “‘ Flashback : Gyerim was designed to breathe the mystique and energy of Silla legends into reality, allowing visitors to feel as if they are dwelling within scenes from Silla mythology.“ They added, ”As we welcome the ‘Year of the Red Horse,’ we hope many visitors will be filled with the vibrant energy of the new year through symbolic elements like ‘Geoseogan’ and ‘Samshinsan’.”
