Dexter Pictures’ first drama ‘Head Over Heels’ has been recognized for its outstanding production quality at a global awards ceremony.
Dexter Pictures (CEO Kim Dong-hyun), a content production subsidiary of Dexter Studios (206560, hereinafter Dexter), planned and produced the drama ‘Head Over Heels’ (directed by Kim Yong-wan, written by Yang Ji-hoon, planned by CJ ENM, produced by Studio Dragon, Dexter Pictures, and IO Content Group) won the Best Comedy Programme award at the ‘2025 ASIAN ACADEMY CREATIVE AWARDS (hereinafter ‘2025 AACA’)’ held in Singapore on the 4th.
The ‘AACA’ is Asia’s largest content awards ceremony, reviewing and honoring the year’s Asian content market. Works submitted from 17 Asia-Pacific countries, including Korea, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam, undergo rigorous screening, with only one work per country per category advancing to the main award nominations. ‘Head Over Heels’ was nominated for the Best Comedy Programme award as Korea’s representative content.
Among entries from diverse countries including New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the Philippines, ‘Head Over Heels’ earned the award by drawing attention for: ▲ its seamless blend of romance and fantasy elements ▲ well-placed humor points infused into the freshness of a youth drama ▲ the completeness of its character-driven emotional arcs and humor expression.
Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, ‘Head Over Heels’ is a drama depicting the unstoppable fantasy romance between a boy destined to die and an MZ-generation shaman girl trying to save him. It harmoniously blends the narratives of ‘first love’ and ‘salvation’ into the K-occult genre, captivating domestic and international viewers with the actors’ perfect chemistry.
It ranked first in its time slot for every episode from the first to the final 12th episode. The finale achieved its highest ratings yet, averaging 5.1% and peaking at 6.2% in the Seoul metropolitan area, and averaging 4.9% and peaking at 6.1% nationwide, ending on a high note. On TVING, it ranked #1 in the TOP10 content chart for four consecutive weeks (July 1-22). It also dominated the FunDex TV-OTT integrated buzz category by GoodData Corporation, securing the #1 spot for four straight weeks (Week 2 to Week 5 of July), showcasing explosive popularity. It also captured the attention of global viewers, ranking second globally in Amazon Prime Video’s TV Shows category (combining English and non-English content), topping the charts in eight countries including Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines, and entering the TOP10 in a total of 35 countries including France, Italy, and Finland.
This award holds significant meaning as it demonstrates the synergy of the Dexter Group within the drama market. The Dexter Group has produced films such as the ‘Along with the Gods’ series, ‘ASHFALL’, and ‘ Escape from Mogadishu’, achieving box office success with over 10 million viewers and winning Best Picture and Technical Achievement Awards, earning acclaim from both audiences and critics. ‘Head Over Heels’ also achieved flawless results, including high viewership ratings, widespread buzz, and critical acclaim. This was driven by the collective excellence of Dexter’s various divisions: Dexter Pictures, which led the planning and production; the VFX team that brought diverse K-occult elements to life; the color grading team that fine-tuned the drama’s emotional tone and atmosphere; and the AI production introduced in certain scenes.
Kim Dong-hyun, CEO of Dexter Pictures, stated, “At the awards ceremony’s local conference, we truly felt the intense interest from various Asian countries in ‘Head Over Heels’ captivating storytelling and outstanding technical execution. ‘Head Over Heels’ is an ideal work combining Dexter Pictures’ creativity and Dexter Studios’ technical prowess.” He added, “Moving forward, within Dexter Group’s solid synergy structure, we will consistently present IPs that capture the global market’s attention through diverse genre approaches and new content experiments.”
Meanwhile, Dexter Pictures is advancing production projects for over 20 IPs and is steadily solidifying its position as a comprehensive content production company by continuously releasing content across a wide range of fields, including films, dramas, and short-form content.
