Dexter Secures Contract for Baekje Culture Center Digital Content Production, Installation, and Operation Project… ‘Establishing Gongju City’s Tourism Hub’
Dexter Studios (206560, hereinafter Dexter) announced it has secured the exhibition hall construction project for the ‘Baekje Culture Center’, a future-oriented complex cultural space synthesizing Baekje’s history and culture. This includes digital content production, installation, and operation.
This project, led by the Gongju Culture & Tourism Foundation, aims to create a stay-type exhibition hall that offers multisensory immersion. It achieves this by reinterpreting local legends and Baekje culture with a modern sensibility and organically integrating the content’s narrative, the physical space, and digital media technology.
Dexter secured the project through a consortium with the digital heritage specialist ‘Cultural Heritage Technology Institute (TRIC)’ and the new media technology company ‘Freedatz’. Dexter will be responsible for: ▲ Developing con tent based on themes and unique local resources for each section ▲ Designing the user experience along the experiential route ▲ Staging the content experience spaces and configuring the experiential infrastructure ▲Installation of content and digital equipment ▲Design of ‘Barrier-Free’ exhibitions. The total project value is 1.97 billion won.
The consortium will develop and implement immersive visual content themed around Gomanaru’s natural landscapes, Baekje legends, and cultural heritage across eight zones under the concept ‘Gongju: Healing the Mind Amidst Nature and Time’. It will showcase sensory content blending Baekje’s spirit and artistic sensibility while creating an emotional retreat space where visitors can linger and draw creative inspiration from the aesthetic appeal of Baekje culture, transcending a simple exhibition space.
The Baekje Culture Center is expected to become a landmark representing the Gongju region, featuring cutting-edge digital content that organically connects Baekje’s legends, culture, and artifacts. This includes immersive content displayed on a massive 7-meter-tall LED wall—a symbolic element of the exhibition hall—and hyper-realistic content utilizing a curved screen approximately 19 meters long.
Recently, Dexter received acclaim from domestic and international audiences for producing the ‘Bomun Multimedia Show’ commemorating the APEC Summit, which integrated Gyeongju’s cultural heritage with cutting-edge technology. The company has also produced numerous immersive content projects in the cultural heritage field, including the Korea Creative Content Agency’s ‘Gwanghwa Era’ and the National Museum of Korea’s ‘Pyeongsaengdo’. Recently, the immersive media art exhibition hall ‘Flashback: Gyerim’, which reinterprets the legends of the thousand-year kingdom of Silla into a sensory narrative, also opened in the Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju through its subsidiary Flashback Ground, showcasing its differentiated capabilities in planning and production within the historical heritage sector.
Lee Hyun-min, Head of Dexter’s Immersive Content Division, stated “Our goal is to develop distinctive programs that allow visitors to experience Baekje’s history, culture, and art through all five senses, while focusing on designing immersive experiences centered around Baekje culture that resonate with people of all ages and genders,” he stated. “Dexter will concentrate its expertise in utilizing cultural heritage and production technology to ensure the ‘Baekje Cultural Center’ establishes itself as a new symbol for Gongju City, embodying both historical significance and future-oriented vision.”
