Dexter Studios is accelerating its entry into the B2C sector. The company signed a business agreement to participate in the immersive digital media art museum project “Flashback Ground: Gyerim” (hereinafter referred to as “Gyerim”).
Dexter Studios [206560] announced on September 9 that it has signed a business agreement with the Technology Research Institute for Culture and Heritage (TRIC) and the Gyeongsangbuk-Do Culture and Tourism Organization (GCTO) for building and investing in Gyerim. According to the agreement, Dexter Studios and TRIC will focus on creating new jobs and revitalizing the local economy in Gyeongju as well as Gyeongsangbuk-do using Gyerim, whereas the GCTO will actively support the project and administrative tasks as the managing entity of the Bomun Tourist Complex. Additionally, all parties will engage in promoting the project, providing other support for smooth business operations, strengthening cooperation with the local community and investing within the province, and mutually cooperating for the use of local tourism facilities.
For the project, Dexter Studios established a joint venture, “Flashback Ground Gyeongju LLC,” with TRIC, a world-class digital heritage content specialist, and the company has been in close communication with the GCTO and related local government agencies. Also, in April of this year, Dexter Studios secured a land area of 15,537㎡ (approximately 4,700 pyeong) around Gyeongju Luge World (355, Sinpyeong-dong, Gyeongju) to build the new museum.
Kim Nam-il, CEO of the GCTO, explained, “We’re building Gyerim within the Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju, which is equipped with various infrastructures such as resorts, luxury hotels, and convention centers. It’s an optimal location for attracting visitors as a popular year-round travel destination.”
Kim Jikyo, CEO of TRIC, added, “We’re overseeing everything from planning to directing, leveraging our experience in presenting immersive world heritage content in various countries. Gyerim will appeal not only to domestic audiences familiar with Silla culture but also to international tourists experiencing the unique charm of Gyeongju for the first time.”
Co-CEOs Kim Wook and Kang Jong-ik of Dexter Studios also expressed their commitment to brand expansion, stating, “We will provide an overwhelming sense of immersion with our story planning and visual production capabilities, combined with the top-notch sound synergy of our subsidiary, Livetone. Our aim is to extend Dexter Studios’ unique video quality to the content exhibited at the museum.” They added, “We plan to open before the APEC Summit in Gyeongju next November, maximizing the potential to attract visitors and enjoy worldwide publicity. We also want to establish the museum as a landmark that highlights the region’s unique culture and history.”
Meanwhile, Dexter Studios has consistently explored new business ventures beyond films, dramas/serials, OTT content, and advertisements, including immersive content, media art, and VR/AR. Previously, the company demonstrated its capabilities in new media content production by participating in projects such as the “Gwanghwa Mural” promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency, establishing an immersive digital cultural experience zone at the KF ASEAN Culture House, the “Fountain of Light” nightscape project at the Asia Cultural Center in Gwangju, and the digital restoration project of “Pyeongsaengdo” at the National Museum of Korea.
