Taiwanese content experts examined Dexter Studios’ work processes, infrastructure, and production technology. As K-content’s influence grows across Asia, the company’s ambitions for worldwide expansion are adding to the anticipation.
Content specialist company Dexter Studios [206560] announced on July 12 that a group organized by the Golden Horse Film Festival in Taiwan visited the company’s headquarters on July 10. The tour to Dexter Studios was part of a K-VFX workshop hosted by the Festival, with over 30 Taiwanese VFX supervisors, producers, and directors participating. The Golden Horse Film Festival is an event aimed at promoting film production and awarding outstanding works as well as filmmakers. Established in 1962, it celebrates its 61st anniversary this year and is widely known as the “Oscars of the Greater China region.”
The group was introduced to the Dexter Studios’ all-in-one post-production process, and included a visit to the Digital Intermediate (DI) business division. It also featured a detailed breakdown of VFX projects and an immersive experiential program at the company’s D1 virtual studio. The video segment was led by DI Director Park Jin-young and Production Management Director Jin Jong-hyun, while the presentation on virtual production was led by VP Director Lee Dong-joon.
At D1, Dexter Studios gave a demonstration of virtual production in an environment professionals can expect during real-world projects. The session covered the organic utilization of various elements such as VFX, filming, lighting, and art, based on each expert’s extensive know-how in movies, OTT, and advertising. The company also explained, in detail, the different processes required for 2D ICVFX, 3D ICVFX, and hybrid ICVFX workflows.
Wen Tien-hsiang, CEO of the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival’s Executive Committee, said, “We are pleased that our film and video production professionals from Taiwan have been given the opportunity to visit Dexter Studios, one of the top companies in Asia, and learn from them.” He added, “Since our group here features veterans in their respective fields, we were looking for some high-quality content and insightful discussions, and learning not only from Dexter Studios’ extensive portfolio but also from practical problem-solving methods was certainly helpful in that regard.”
Kim Hye-jin, CSO of Dexter Studios, emphasized, “We have consistently received interest from various regions in Asia, including Taiwan, which has great market potential. This shows that Korea is taking up a leadership position in everything from content and IP to technology and infrastructure.” She added, “We will continue our strategic approach with our eyes set on global expansion as a leading company in Asia.”
Meanwhile, Dexter Studios signed a Memorandum of Understanding with TAICCA last year and attended the VFX Forum held in Taiwan in June this year as the sole presenter to talk about its pipeline, participation in international projects, and VFX work processes.
