As Dexter Studios continues to earn praise for its technical prowess thanks to a number of projects distributed via global OTT platforms, it has garnered significant interest in Europe as well.
Content specialist company Dexter Studios [206560] announced on July 5 that it was invited to give a special lecture at the “3rd K-Drama MOiM” (2024) hosted by the Korean Cultural Center in Spain. This event is a talk session designed to help K-Drama enthusiasts acquire specialized knowledge in content production and gain a deeper understanding of Korean culture.
On June 27, VFX Director Jegal Seung and Production Management Director Jin Jong-hyun led the lecture held in Madrid, Spain, as VFX supervisors. The event was attended by more than 40 local fans, content production professionals, and VFX company representatives.” Both Directors told a few behind-the-scenes stories on the Netflix original series “Gyeongseong Creature” and “Parasyte: The Grey,” highlighting Dexter Studios’ powerful production pipeline, and engaged the audience in an expansive Q&A session on how visual elements were applied to the two productions.
On June 28, Dexter Studios was also invited to a masterclass at TAI Escuela de Artes, a school renowned for film production and direction. Directors Jegal and Jin shared some practical knowledge and their experience in the industry with over 50 undergraduate and graduate students majoring in video production and post-production.
In explaining why the Center organized these events, Shin Jae-kwang, Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Spain, said, “Because we’ve witnessed the rise in popularity of K-content in Spain and Europe, we believe content is the most natural medium to introduce Korean culture.” Shin continued, “Participants praised Dexter Studios, a leading Korean VFX production company and a hidden contributor to the K-content craze, for providing a unique perspective on understanding K-Dramas.”
VFX Director Jegal Seung, shared his thoughts, saying, “Recently released Korean dramas have topped global viewership rankings, and the response to the VFX used in these shows has been growing. I hope this serves as an opportunity to help people understand the process that goes into creating content and to highlight why we really need VFX.” Jin Jong-hyun, Production Management Director, added, “All of these insightful questions made me realize the deep affection locals have for Korean content. We will continue to strive to create works that everyone can enjoy, regardless of where people are from.”
CSO Kim Hye-jin also mentioned, “During our trip to Madrid, we visited the Netflix studio in Spain, which has become a major content market in Europe, and we were able to gain a deeper understanding of Spain.” Kim emphasized, “We met with local production companies and VFX studios in particular to open the door to future collaborations,” and “We plan to strengthen our network and exchanges to discover opportunities that can expand our portfolio.”
On June 12, Dexter Studios took the stage as the lone speaker at a VFX Forum hosted by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), where it shared its expertise in K-VFX and international projects. Earlier, in April this year, a delegation from the French Centre national du cinéma et l’audiovisuel (CNC) visited Dexter Studios’ headquarters to observe the company’s cutting-edge facilities and systems, showing interest in its production technology. This raises expectations for increased participation in overseas projects going forward.
