Dexter Studios is exploring new channels to diversify its overseas networks. The company recently showcased its all-in-one content production system and unveiled what makes its VFX projects so successful.
Content specialist company Dexter Studios [206560] announced on June 17 that it gave a presentation at a VFX forum hosted by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA). This company was invited as the only speaker among a long list of VFX production studios worldwide, and spoke to more than 120 content industry officials from Taiwan who were eager to learn about K-VFX technology and the content it can produce.
The event, hosted in Taipei on June 12, Dexter Studios’ CSO Kim Hye-jin and Director Jin Jong-hyun, who leads the Production Management Division and also serves as a VFX Supervisor at Dexter, presented what they believed is a model capable of building successful comprehensive content production companies, and shared the company’s strengths and business strategies, notable examples of the company’s international projects, and details on the VFX research that went into movie “The Moon” and Netflix original series “Parasyte: The Grey.” Kim and Jin followed up their presentations with a panel talk with officials from Taiwanese media groups and VFX corporations. Then, as part of a conversation with industry experts, Dexter Studios gave its opinion on the prospects for collaboration between Taiwan and Korea, which is very much a part of Dexter Studios’ strategy going forward.
Dexter Studios and TAICCA have worked hard to develop each other’s content industry with continued exchange. Two months after a delegation from TAICCA visited the company in October last year to share the latest trends in Taiwan and TAICCA’s vision for the future, the two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together on joint investments and the production of video content and to promote a global expansion strategy.
A TAICCA official explained, “We wanted to learn from Dexter Studios, which has powered its growth with international projects over the years, and share its know-how with our people in the Taiwanese content industry.” The official added, “We plan on benchmarking successful companies across Asia and use them as a catalyst for the development of Taiwan’s cultural content industry.”
Meanwhile, Director Jin Jong-hyun said, “According to data from the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), Korean content was the most viewed in Taiwan’s OTT market at 85.5% as of 2022.” He continued, “As markets around the world, including Asia, Europe, and North America, start paying closer attention to Korean IP, we engaged in a passionate discussion with members at the panel in Taiwan.” Jin also explained, “The forum was significant in that it expanded the discussion from where the VFX industry in each region stands at the moment to what we need to do and the direction in which the industry should develop.”
Director Kim Hye-jin said, “Being here in Taiwan in person really gave me a feel for just how much interest there is in Korean content and our company. We discussed where the Asian VFX industry is headed instead of just talking about what’s coming down our company’s pipeline and introducing our projects.” She added, “We want to sustain a smooth and seamless network with Taiwan by actively exploring opportunities to create better synergies in our future.”
