Dexter Pictures, a subsidiary of Dexter Studios, won an IP contest, showing off its outstanding capabilities in content planning and development.
On December 4, Dexter Studios (206560) announced that one of its subsidiaries, Dexter Pictures, won the Grand Prize (The Seoul Business Agency CEO Prize) in the free original work category at the “2023 IP Cross Video Story Contest” co-hosted by Seoul Business Agency (SBA) and Baby Shark Next Unicorn IP Fund (managed by Smart Study Ventures).
Dexter Pictures’ production of “A Chance at Last” tells a unique story between Ju-eun, who infiltrates a wealthy family to avenge her murdered sister, and Taeha, who interferes with Ju-eun’s revenge to protect her. The Prize gave “A Chance at Last” SBA’s stamp of approval as a unique piece of IP, and KRW 20 million in prize money to help plan for and advance the project going forward. Dexter Pictures plans to accelerate its video production of “A Chance at Last” in cooperation with its co-production company DCCENT (CEO: Yoon Seok-hwan).
Meanwhile, the “IP Cross Video Story Contest” invites small and medium-sized enterprises in Seoul that work on turning webtoons and web novels into video. The panel of judges for the Contest featured experts from across culture and content industries, who selected winners based on six categories: extensibility of the original work, planning and novelty of the adaptation, investment potential, and planning and development capabilities. In addition to the prize money handed out to help plan and further develop winning entries, the Contest helps attract investment in K-content and expand its business by allowing companies to participate in the business-matching opportunities available in “Content Market SPP 2023.”
Kim Hyun-woo, CEO of SBA, said, “Now that K-content is gaining traction all over the world, we hosted this Contest to discover potential projects and help creators produce videos.” He added, “I would like to thank all of our participants for their interest in the Contest, and I look forward to more creators coming up with various video productions.”
Kim Dong-hyun, CEO of Dexter Pictures, said, “Our video is based on the popular web novel (writer: Seo Hye-eun) and webtoon (creator: Dindon) series of the same title. We knew we had an excellent story and visuals in our hands, and with support coming from DCCENT, all we did was try to adapt it in the best way we knew how, and expand the content for the video.” Kim continued, “Great IP attracts attention regardless of the format, and with the importance of IP growing, the ability to tell one story in multiple formats has become key. We’re very pleased that our video won the top prize among the many excellent works submitted to the Contest, and we want to make sure that we can elevate every production we’re working on, including ‘A Chance at Last,’ into a massive success all over the world.”
Meanwhile, Dexter Pictures reinforced its reputation as an expert production company by incorporating the Content Division, which was spun off from Dexter Studios, into the company in the third quarter of last year. This year, it plans to work on turning “Wizard Boy Meoteol,” “Chetamja,” “Then and There,” “Kick the Moon,” and “Dive into You” into their own video productions.
