Dexter Pictures (CEO: Kim Donghyun) is looking to work with Toyou’s Dream (CEO: Yoo Taek Geun), of Dexter Studios, which specializes in visual special effects (VFX) and content.
Dexter Studios announced (on October 25, local time) that it had signed an MOU for “video and webtoon content planning, production, and joint business development” with Toyou’s Dream at its headquarters in Sangam-dong, Seoul, on December 24.
Dexter Studios is an all-in-one comprehensive content company that offers content planning, shooting, production, and post-production services through its “‘one-stop system.” To date, Dexter Studios has produced box office hits such as “Mr. Go” (2013), “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” (2017), “Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days” (2018), “Ashfall” (2019), and “Escape from Mogadishu” (2021). Dexter Pictures is a subsidiary of Dexter Studios that plans, develops, and produces feature films, TV serials, and OTT content in collaboration with Dexter Studios’ content division.
Meanwhile, Toyou’s Dream specializes in webtoon production with aspirations to become the no. 1 producer of webtoon IP in Asia. It has partnerships with more than 250 creators and over 400 webtoon IP titles to its name so far. Signature works by Toyou’s Dream include original works such as “Dokgo,” “Tong,” “Shark,” “Polar Night,” and “Castle.” Last year, it debuted “Shark: The Beginning,” a movie Toyou’s Dream produced in collaboration with JTBC Studio, on OTT platform Tving.
With this new agreement in place, the two partners plan to work on three joint projects going forward: “There, That Day (working title),” “Palantir (working title),” and “EARTH 619 (working title).” Dexter Pictures will plan and produce the videos used in the project, while Toyou’s Dream is expected to plan and produce the webtoon. All three joint projects are based on novels lauded by readers for solid storylines and ingenious creativity.
Dexter Pictures and Toyou’s Dream plan to continue their collaboration to boost synergies that extend beyond planning and producing video and webtoon content – both partners are looking to expand their IP. In addition to these joint projects, the two companies are hoping to contribute to the video production of source IPs owned by each company, as well as the development and production of webtoon content.
Dexter Pictures CEO Kim Donghyun said, “Thanks to the full support of Dexter Studios, we have been laying the groundwork for competitive content without having to worry about genre classifications and the feasibility of the content. If we can successfully meld the experience of Dexter Studios, the planning of Dexter Pictures, and the creativity of Toyou’s Dream, which is the best creative partner we could have asked for, we certainly can create more sophisticated and refined works.” He added, “We promise to do our very best to offer high-quality content.”
Toyou’s Dream CEO Yoo Taek Geun said, “With our new MOU, we want to plan and produce new media content using our advanced production capacity for webtoons. Working with Dexter Pictures will have a significant impact on our ability to create more experimental and successful works.” Yoo also said, “Please keep an eye out for the innovative and diverse range of content created by both companies going forward.”
