Recently, a research project headed up by the technical support headquarters at Dexter Studios (CEO: Kim Wook, Kang Jong-ik), a visual effects (VFX) and content company, was selected as one of the projects showcased at the Performance Exhibition for Hologram Core Technology Development Projects hosted by the Institute of Information and Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation (IITP).
On November 26, Dexter Studios announced () that it had participated in the IITP Performance Exhibition for Hologram Core Technology Development Projects at Sky 31, Lotte World Tower, Songpa-gu, Seoul, on November 25.
This Performance Exhibition, attended by a total of five teams, was prepared by the IITP to encourage sustained nationwide research and development, and the sharing of outstanding outcomes. Dexter Studios showcased its VR content processed using the Unreal Engine, and a hologram using images of dancers performing the Taepyeongmu filmed and captured in 360 degrees with the Unity Engine.
The core technology of this project is the “Ultra-high-resolution atypical plenoptic video acquisition technology for medium and large spaces.” With the technology that Dexter Studios researched as part of a consortium with Locus, Gaon Media, Wonkwang University, and Sejong University, engineers can capture a moving object in 3D using more than 60 multi-view cameras.
Moreover, the technology is easy to move from place to place, and data can be verified and reprocessed in real-time. Thanks to these advantages, Dexter Studios’ new technology is expected to prove useful across a wide variety of fields such as movie and metaverse content production, heritage restoration, etc.
Dexter Studios CTO Choi Wan-ho said, “The ultra-high-resolution atypical plenoptic video acquisition technology for medium-to-large spaces presented at this latest performance exhibition will become a cornerstone for not only our own films, but also metaverse content and productions.” He continued, “Dexter Studios will continue to develop related technologies to diversify our business and create new business models.”
