On June 27, Dexter Studios announced that it has partnered up with CJ ENM, which has cultivated a strong cooperative relationship with Dexter Studios, to become a co-investor in part 1 of Alienoid.
Part 1 of Alienoid will depict a story between gurus from the late-Goryeo Dynasty searching for the holy sword of legend and bounty hunters chasing aliens trapped inside people in 2022. A time portal connecting the two worlds opens and brings the gurus and bounty hunters together. Alienoid is the first film in seven years for director Choi Dong-hoon – he previously directed “Assassination” in 2015. Alienoid stars Ryu Jun-yeol, Kim Woo-bin, Kim Tae-ri, So Ji-sub, Yum Jung-ah, Jo Woo-jin, and Kim Eui-sung.
Dexter Studios took the lead in all major post-production processes, including the visual effects, sound, and DI (digital color correction), for Alienoid. Dexter Studios, which has previous experience creating imaginary metaverses with VFX technology for movies such as “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” (2017), “Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days” (2018), and “Space Sweepers” (2021), used its unique know-how to offer a powerful and sensational array of visual and sound effects.
Dexter Studios’ CEOs Kim Wook and Kang Jong-ik said, “The Alienoid project with director Choi Dong-hoon, who is an unbelievable director, will captivate the audience with powerful visuals and sounds produced based on Dexter Studios’ know-how and technology.” They added, “We’re also happy we can help the Korean film and movie industry recover, which showed signs of new life when ‘The Roundup’ was released in cinemas.”
Meanwhile, Dexter Studios has, once again, proved its mettle as Korea’s leading post-production company with its latest post-production work for a string of major motion pictures. From “The Roundup,” which sold 10 million tickets at the box office for the first time this year, to “Broker,” which won the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival, and “The Witch: Part 2 – The Other One,” the sequel of “The Witch: Part 1 – The Subversion” by director Park Hoon-jung, Dexter Studios made its presence felt across the film industry both in Korea and abroad.
Not only that, director Park Chan-wook’s “Decision to Leave,” director Lee Jung-jae’s debut film “Hunt,” and director Han Jae-rim’s aviation disaster blockbuster “Emergency Declaration,” are also expected to make their way into cinemas soon, making Dexter Studios the leading partner for post-production work in 2022.
