Visual effects (VFX) and content company Dexter Studios Co., Ltd. (CEO: Kim Wook and Kang Jong-ik; hereinafter “Dexter Studios”) is looking to work with Megabox Plus M Co., Ltd. (CEO: Hong Jeongin; hereinafter “Megabox”) to co-produce movies and TV serials.
On January 12, Dexter Studios announced its new MOU with Megabox to “plan and produce video content, and co-develop business opportunities.”
Dexter Studios is an all-in-one comprehensive content company that offers content planning, shooting, production, and post-production services through its “‘one-stop system.” To date, Dexter Studios has enjoyed great success in producing box office hits such as “Mr. Go” (2013), “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” (2017), “Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days” (2018), “Ashfall” (2019), and “Escape from Mogadishu” (2021).
Meanwhile, Megabox has been investing in Korean films since 2014. It invests in distributing and producing ten or so films each year to bolster its influence on the Korean filming industry. To date, Megabox has brought several cinematically acclaimed films to viewers, including “Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet,” “Anarchist from Colony,” “Little Forest,” and “The Book of Fish,” and it has multiple other highly competitive tentpole films, such as “Negotiation,” “Hunt,” “Dream,” and “Bogota,” ready for release. Megabox is also looking to expand its business to grow into a production studio targeting various platforms.
Dexter Studios and Megabox will plan and develop new projects together, and hopefully, create a number of new films and TV serials. Moreover, the two partners have plans to cooperate strategically with each other for additional businesses using their IP.
Dexter Studios will also work on the post-production process, including VFX, DI (color correction), and sound correction works, for future projects with Megabox. In doing so, Dexter Studios and Megabox are hoping to upgrade the overall quality of their productions by leveraging technologies available at Dexter Studios, which have proven to be effective in several major motion pictures and TV shows.
Dexter Studios’ CEOs Kim Wook and Kang Jong-ik said, “We are delighted to work with Megabox, which has been a consistent force in producing some notable movies. We will do our best to plan and develop unique, high-quality content that stands out by leveraging the capabilities and resources at both companies.”
Dexter Studios, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, plans to take another step forward in its evolution as a comprehensive content company in 2022. As part of its growth strategy, the company plans to bolster its own content planning capacity by securing talented directors and writers, and by acquiring a wide variety of new and original IPs.
